North Dakota State University is a  member university of Great Plains IDEA, an alliance of accredited public universities from all parts of the United States who collaborate to provide online educational experiences to working adults. Through Great Plains IDEA, you can select North Dakota State University as your home university and take courses from NDSU as well as other universities that belong to the alliance. This unique approach combines university resources, giving you access to top faculty and courses that one single university could not offer alone.

Participating Programs

Through Great Plains IDEA, North Dakota State University offers an array of online master's degrees and online graduate certificate programs in agriculture and human sciences. These programs are offered at one affordable common price and are completely online, giving busy professionals maximum flexibility to pursue their education while balancing family and work.

NDSU admits students to each of the programs listed below except for the Grassland Management Graduate Certificate and Quantitative Genetics and Genomics Online Courses. For those two programs, NDSU only teaches courses.

North Dakota State University Traditions

North Dakota State University is dedicated to supporting all students whether attending classes on campus or online. Core values include community, inclusivity, innovation, and excellence, among others.

The 1919 head football coach encouraged the nickname “Bison” for a strong, fierce mascot. Vast numbers of bison once roamed the prairie of North Dakota.  Students and residents of the Fargo community pronounce the mascot with a "z" sound, rather than an "s" sound.

The Harry D. McGovern Alumni Center has a grand entrance known as the NDSU Walk of Pride. It includes floor tiles with the names of NDSU alumni, students, faculty, staff, and fans to show their pride and commitment to NDSU.

NDSU Homecoming is a campus and community celebration that exceeds the expectations of a top research university and successful community. The Homecoming parade, which is held in downtown Fargo, draws thousands of alumni, students, faculty, staff, and community members.
